An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Photonics Technical Lead to join an innovative organisation at the forefront of quantum technology development. This is a senior technical leadership role, ideal for someone with a strong background in integrated photonics and a passion for translating cutting-edge research into real-world quantum applications. You will have the opportunity to make this role your own, with plans to grow this function significantly. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction of integrated photonics programmes supporting advanced quantum technologies.
  • Develop technology roadmaps for photonic integrated circuits (PICs), laser systems and photonic subsystems.
  • Drive the design, simulation, fabrication, testing and characterisation of silicon photonic devices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and research teams to deliver complex technical projects.
  • Build and mentor high-performing technical teams while engaging with external partners, suppliers and customers.
  • Support the transition of innovative photonics technologies into commercial products.

Essential Requirements

  • PhD in Photonics, Optoelectronics or a closely related discipline.
  • Significant experience developing integrated photonic devices or PIC-based systems.
  • Previous experience within the quantum technology sector is highly desirable and will be a strong advantage.
  • Expertise with photonics simulation and design tools such as Lumerical, Synopsys or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of silicon photonics, laser systems and optical characterisation techniques.
  • Proven technical leadership experience within multidisciplinary R&D environments.
