Senior Ion Trapping Expert / Senior Ion Trap Operator (m/f/d)
Location: Hamburg, Germany

IntaQuantum is recruiting for a quantum technology start-up developing full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology.

Our client is looking for an experienced trapped-ion physicist to join its interdisciplinary, international team in Hamburg. The role focuses on operating ion-trap quantum processors, optimising control sequences and improving system reliability.

The team offers a friendly working environment, flat hierarchies and flexibility in organising working hours.

Your responsibilities

  • Operate ion-trap quantum computers alongside the team in Hamburg.

  • Programme and optimise pulse sequences executed on ion-trap quantum processors.

  • Develop and characterise calibration and automation routines.

  • Collaborate with electronics and mechanics teams to develop hardware modules and components for next-generation ion-trap quantum computers.

  • Improve reliability and increase the uptime of cloud-accessed quantum computers.

Your profile

  • PhD in physics focused on trapped-ion research.

  • Excellent understanding of light–matter interaction and coherent operations with single ions.

  • Experience with real-time electronic control systems and pulse sequence programming.

  • Experience with single-frequency lasers and ultra-high vacuum systems.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Desirable experience

  • Postdoctoral experience working on trapped-ion experiments.

  • Experience with ARTIQ.

  • Experience with surface-electrode ion traps.
