A leading deep-tech quantum technology organisation is seeking a PhD-educated Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Physicist to join its advanced research and development team. The role focuses on the development of neutral-atom-based quantum systems spanning computing, sensing, and next-generation quantum platforms.

This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of fundamental physics and applied quantum engineering, contributing directly to systems that are moving from laboratory research into real-world deployment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, model, and execute experiments involving ultracold atoms, laser-cooled systems, and quantum state control
  • Contribute to the development and optimisation of neutral-atom quantum hardware and subsystems
  • Perform analytical calculations, numerical modelling, and simulation of atomic and optical systems
  • Integrate opto-mechanical, electronic, and software components into experimental platforms
  • Analyse experimental data, identify system limitations, and propose performance improvements
  • Collaborate with physicists and engineers across multidisciplinary project teams
  • Contribute to technical documentation, publications, and internal knowledge sharing

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Experimental AMO Physics, or a closely related field
  • Strong hands-on laboratory experience with atomic or optical quantum systems
  • Experience with laser systems, trapping/cooling techniques, or precision measurement
  • Proficiency in Python or similar scientific programming tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and experimental design skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced R&D environment
