A fast-growing quantum technology company is looking for a Senior Research Scientist to join its R&D team in London, working at the intersection of quantum optics theory, photonic architectures and real-world quantum systems.

This is an opportunity to take theoretical concepts through to practical implementation, working closely with experimental physicists and engineers to shape the development of next-generation quantum technologies.

The role:

  • Design and evaluate photonic quantum computing architectures and light–matter interaction protocols.
  • Model system performance, analyse error sources and assess trade-offs between scalability, complexity and performance.
  • Develop and maintain numerical simulations and scientific code to inform real hardware and system-level decisions.
  • Work closely with experimental teams to benchmark theoretical models against experimental results and optimise component designs.
  • Contribute to research direction through publications, patents and technical reviews.
  • Model both near-term and more advanced nonlinear quantum systems, linking component-level functionality to overall computational performance.

You’ll bring:

  • PhD in Physics or a related discipline, or equivalent research experience.
  • Strong knowledge of quantum optics and quantum computing architectures.
  • Experience developing numerical simulations and codebases.
  • Ideally, exposure to atomic physics, light–matter interactions, cavity QED or optical hardware constraints.
  • A desire to work where theoretical modelling directly influences experimental and product decisions.
